Anyone here own one of the newer versions of the Porsche Speedster?

I saw one the other day and thought it looked a fun little summer runaround - but they might be rubbish for all I know.

My boss has one in blue, nice car but it's a long way off looking like €200k's worth!!! I was gobsmacked when he told me what he paid for it!.....however he claims it's better than money in the bank and is worth more now that the purchase value...... Emperors new clothes syndrome IMHO.

I've driven a Chesil Speedster. Getting back into the TR6 was a great relief. (Which for those of you who drive or have driven TR6s is a very telling statement.)

I was thinking of this type:

Just as a fun car - not a serious driving thing.

I'd just like to know if they're absolutely awful or sort of OK for summer pootling.

Hi Dougie - that's exactly what I'm talking about. Looked like a great trip.

How many 'replica' Speedster manufacturers are there? Is the Chesil much different from the ones from California (for example). Whilst I wouldn't be buying one for it's performance, how do they drive?

Many thanks

Yep when I purchased I thought I would be sitting in the inside lane of the motorway being overtaken by lorries.
But how wrong was I with the high ratio gearbox and 2.0 Aircooled she happily sits at 85-90 at 3200rpm so like touring.
The Motolita Wood Steering wheel and the Lemans seats and seating possition and direct clunk gearchange all adds to the feeling of driving something old.
As mentioned I speced it with some Retro items to make it look more period ie the Boxweave carpets, the Steering wheel, Seats, Radio and the numberplate to hide the fact it would have been on a 1972 L reg.
Yes Handling is not Lotus Exige but its all relative as your not buying it to break lap records although my 13.45 Nurburgring time Im still proud off hahahaaaaa.

The trip was awesome and only a couple of heat releated problems with rubber parts when at 39degrees in Maranello.
But in UK these wouldnt happen, I also speced with Porsche Fan housing etc so you dont get any of the normal Aircooled overheating problems.
I honestly cant explain to anyone how great the car is, having had 2 TVR's and a 996 Turbo this car gets more attention than any of them by a country mile, Thumbs up on the motorway, crowds round it where ever you stop.
Yes its not real but there are only a few people out their that would know the difference.
This one is definately a keeper.

Let me know if you have any other questions feel free to email me.

Talking of actual Porsche Speedsters, a friend bought one of the modern ones about 1995 (?) and put it away as an investment. I think it is still there, and about the same value.

That's due to poor maintenance than anything else. I've had my Beetle cruising on the motorway all day on blistering hot summer days with a power top pulley (smaller than standard) with no problem. Correctly set up they're as good as gold and don't over heat.
