AS I attend various sailing venues I attend I sometimes see what I can only describe as posh vans. I've only seen Merc or VW they are short wheel base and low roofed with big alloys and lowish profile tyres, a body kit, or at least a differnt front bumper with a chin spoiler, metalic paint (one in a very cool dark brown) and colour-coded bumpers. I'm too old to cup my hand on the window to look in through the tinted windows but a sideways glance reveals "sporty" seats with lots of arm rests and cup holders in the front and a mix of minibus seats and space for putting sails etc in the back. They have a window in the sliding doors (heavily tinted) which has a little window that opens built in. Part of me quite wants one. Even though I know it is only a van in a fancy dress.
I tried to find out about them but I don't know what to search under. Do they have a generic term? Are they anygood? Where would I get one from?
Thanks

I often see them referred to as day vans, and this place seems to sell lots of stuff of that nature. Wouldn't surprise me if many of them actually start as vans and then get windows etc fitted out by small companies that specialise in such things.
A mate of mine sells the Mercedes Vito models, which I think are called SportX.
He always has a blinged up one as his company vehicle which costs buttons in tax, it's loaded with kit including leather seats, DVD, rear camera, pimp alloys and dubious chrome 'trimmings'. It also has a Brabus chip which makes it shift even more.

Quite common in rock music circles. We call them "splitters", split half and half between passenger accommodation (in the front) and luggage (in the back). The passenger bit is much like a coach, with a table. Usually they have a playstation too.
Quite good fun driving a LWB sprinter on snow with half a tonne of amplifiers behind the back axle...

As others have said usually Vitos (unreliable and pre 06 rust) or Transporters.
I run an older T4 as a weekend family bus (4 kids) which with 6 quick release seats can also carry my toys easily too. Handy for getting changed in the back of too.
Great for camping trips and just days out.
Can be surprisingly expensive for what they are but don't tend to depreciate much
Here's mine

Chipped to 150bhp and running on Biodiesel at 30mpg

I'd like a Sprinter/LWB Transporter/LWB Transit as an MTB/moto/camping wagon. Unfortunately the cost of another vehicle and the low A-Road speed limit for a van would spoil it!
speed limit for lights goods is actually better than towing as light goods can legally do 70 on motorways and the 50 single / 60 dual NSL is the same as towing Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
