Frankfurt: Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series

'Most powerful C-class of all time' gets show debut

The most extreme Mercedes C-class ever, the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, has made its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show.

Based on the ‘regular’ C63 AMG coupe (itself no slouch), the Black Series version makes 510bhp and 457lb ft (59bhp and 15lb ft more than the C63), enough for it to sprint to 62mph in 4.2secs. The 6208cc V8 is essentially the same as the one in the more humble C63, but uses forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft from the SLS AMG supercar.

The MCT-7 7-speed transmission powers the rear wheels and features a double de-clutch function and a 'Race Start' mode, while the chassis has been specced with coilover suspension, a track that’s 40mm wider at the front and 79mm wider at the rear, and a limited-slip differential.

If you want to get even racier, AMG will sort you out with a 'track pack' . This includes sticky Dunlop tyres, developed specifically for the C63 Black Series, and active rear axle transmission cooling. Another optional extra is an AMG aerodynamics package (pictured), which includes carbon fibre 'flics' on the front apron, an extra front splitter, and an adjustable rear wing.

Mercedes says that it will never make a Black Series car (of which this is the fourth) with four-doors or a convertible roof, so don’t expect a saloon version anytime soon. Merc is even reluctant to do a four-seat Black Series; although the C63 Black can be specified with rear seats, you lose the snazzy front fixed-back buckets in the process.

Sales of the C63 Black Series should begin before the year’s out, priced at around £100k, although Mercedes has not as yet released official specs or pricing.

And what's wrong with a red black edition? Or was that a black red edition?

Stunning!

My favorite current MB. I would take one of these over an SLS any day (regardless of cost).

I've just bought a brand new C250 Sport (diesel) - wish I had the money for this one though!!! Hoever, I am just basking in the glory that my car produces more 'torques' than this Black Series C Class!!

I thought the C250 Sport CDI only prduces about 370lb ft of torque? how is that more than 457lb ft...
But I would rather have your car anyway for the money. £30,000 new vs £100,000. Would spend that £70k on other things and still have a really good car. But then thats a boring arguement that always comes up - the 'If I had the money you could get instead'...
Decent car but £100k...no thanks.

normal C63 is "pumped up" enough already for my liking. i love the power hike (who wouldn't) but it certainly wouldn't be where my (imaginary) £100k would go.

That is bloody heavenly and so much better than the M3 GTS.

But I would still buy a GT3 instead.

Probably...

The c-class does not have a stiff chassis. I've driven the regular amg c-class and on bumpy road the car feels no where as solid as an M3 or Audi. I think evo said something similar in one of their tests of a M3 vs amg. For the last Black series the whole car was seam welded, this one seems (pun) not to be. How can something this powerful and heavy get by as a true great handling car with a stock c-class chassis? Seems unlikely?

This is nice. MB are doing pretty well so far, nothing too out of the ordinary in terms of design though. But that's what buyers want. I wonder what the next SL will be like in 'Black' guise.

Very nice, but why (slightly) less power than last year's DR 520?
