Tempted to splash out and buy a sportscar after a few (too many) years of X5 family car driving. New 911 tick a lot of boxes, but for £80k-ish are there amy real alternatives that I am missing?

Advice welcome!

Aston V8 Vantage or Evora spring to mind straight away, and don't Maserati also have a car in that sector?

The depreciation would put me off to be honest. 40-50% over three years is bearable on a £30k car, but on an £80k car it would just frighten me. If I was in the OP's position I'd buy a two year old Carrera S from Porsche with warranty etc.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Jaguar XKR, Maserati GranTurismo, Mercedes CLK63 AMG.

Or by the time you've ticked a few option boxes, a used V12 Vantage with a handful of miles...

Maserati GT or Ferrari F430, R8, Aston Vantage.

Budget? Daily driver? Other vehicles being kept I assume?

Thanks already. Other cars being kept, so not a full daily driver, though I will almost certainly drive it more than originally planned, so it is not a garage queen. Backseats would be nice for the kids, but probably not a dealbreaker. A jag badge a dealbreaker!

I've never owned a car like any of those mentioned in this thread but I suspect the main difference between a new 991 and something like a used F430 is running cost and the number of miles you can do.

A lot of 911s are used as daily drivers and have that added dose of practicality, which you would not have with something a little more exotic. On the other hand, if it is for occasional use then maybe something like an F430 would suit your requirements better as it may feel a bit more special?

If its a daily driver, the Aston is to me the only sensible alternative, I am a big lotus fan but I find it hard to believe it will have the practicality of a boot and space that the 911/Aston have and just the everyday livability.

I do really like the Aston 420 but I suspect once test driven, the Porsche will just make more sense but those would be the top of my list for driver appeal / usability.

Within 911 territory, this would be awfully tempting in place of a new Carerra or S.
