A quote from Ed Miliband at the TUC conference. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! He only got elected in because of the unions.

"Miliband, to jeers and shouts of "shame" from some union leaders and activists, reiterated his condemnation of a strike involving hundreds of thousands of teachers and civil servants in June over the controversial pensions issue."

If he'd said the opposite you'd have called him a communist. PH is great sometimes.

What did I call him then? He's gone up a bit in my estimation actually. It's always hard to tell people things they don't want to hear. I still found it funny though.

Good move by Ed IMO. The unions & hardcore lefties can dislike it all they want, but it's not like they can vote or bankroll the Tories or LD's in protest. Meanwhile, Labour come off as not-completely-detatched from the economic ststorm going down.

He won't be going up in my estimation, but thats just a personal thing about politicians who look and sound like nerds wink

Strikes me he was doing much the same sort of thing that Neil Kinnock did in the 80s and so clearly got up Derek Hatton's nose - firing shots scross a few bows.

Just saw this on the news. Was miliband addressing a fringe conference or something? Looked like there were only about 50 people there.

From the article in the link on the first post:

"[He was] addressing a meeting of union leaders at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) conference in London"
