Can anyone advise on a KA gearbox?

My niece has a 1.3 KA manual on a Y plate, she's been quoted £600 for a replacement, seems a little steep considering the car is only worth a grand?

Its anything up to 1200 for the power steering to be done with a rack. Engine out job.

Its the going rate now days, annoying really. Good little cars

Does seem a bit steep tbh but if it includes a clutch & slave then it's more realistic, a 2nd hand biz may be the way to go
Not sure where te engine out to do a rack came from but I've replaced a few & haven't had to take an engine out yet!!

power steering pump specfically, i thought it was a lot, but its not uncommon apprently.
