I ahven't seen many Panameras on the road. Probably only seen a couple this year. But when I do see them, after I get over the sheer SCALE of the car, which is enough to shock.... I actually quite like them. Big and brash is appealing.

Tonight however, I saw one that actually made my jaw drop, and caused me to feel a little 'unwell'.

It was all looking so good as it flew past me on the motorway, gets that 'eww/wow' odd feeling, was a brand new 61 plater, in black. Looked lovely, in the way that an attractive but fat lass does after 4 pints of stella.....

well, we both took an off ramp, and as I pulled along side of this brute at the ligths at the bottom of the ramp, I was looking at its smart alloys and bright clean calipers over carbon ceramic disks.... when I saw 'it' written along its side.....

'diesel' in Porsche script.....

OMG man what have you done?????

Why why why would anyone do this? Surely he doesnt need to save money on fuel if he can spunk away all that money on Carbon disks that he probably doesnt need anyway?

Why would you pretend to go one way and then go in a totally different direction?

Agreed. I'd have that off with a rusty old screw driver if necessary.

If you have equally poor taste but even more the same amount of money when specced up
Fixed that for you.

Why not just buy a nice XFR or XJ - far more comfy and better looking? Or, of course, a Quattroporte - or two, as one will be in for repairs most of the time.

You are chris Harris and I claim my ten pounds.

You speaketh, quite honestly, nonsense. The diesel panamera has, I am sure, not lost any of it's dynamic polish. It still looks as bad, still has the same kit.

So, to dismiss one purely because it is diesel is tosh. As a company car proposition it makes sense to an executive. It's smart enough to meet clients with, yet economical enough to do Leeds to London on a tank. It's lower co2 means less co car tax and a better environmental footprint for your business. Important.

That the car also lets you have some fun if you decide to go back to Leeds via the peak district is it's trump card and, I'm damn sure, it will be a big seller.

Porsche ain't daft. It'll sell. And sell good. It's a genius car

The diesel part in a big saloon I can deal with, even if it has a Porsche badge, the bit that baffles me most id the fact the owner has chosen to spec ceramic brakes on it!

why not buy an XF? because in quality terms Vs a Porsche they are in the dark ages. My XF spent more time in the shop than on the road with loads of stupid niggles and the quality was a thin vaneer on the surface, once you got below that it was frankly st. I wouldn't buy another Jaguar for quite some time now. My current Porsche is light years ahead.

...which is why Jaguar is near the top of most reliability surveys. I've noticed several replies from you stating how awful your XF was - perhaps you got a lemon, which happens to all manufacturers. A friend had a Cayman S that has been no end of trouble.

It's not the fact folk are buying diesel Panamera's, that's absolutely fine for many reasons; it's the fact they've chosen not to remove the stupid, scrawling fonty bit of shsmilet that is the "diesel" logo on the front wings.

They look utterly w@@nk!!

I saw a trailer load full of brand spanking new Cayeene's on their merry way to be flogged on and they all had.....

It just looks rubbish.....imo.
