I want to reduce the hump at the top of my driveway. The dark grey paving bricks need to be relaid so they are nearly flat, about 2cm needs to be shaved off the concrete border strip in the middle, and about six inches of the grey tarmac will have to be reprofiled to join the brick/concrete.

After this work the top of my driveway will be less /\ and more --.

I don't want to attempt the bricks because I'll probably make a hash of relaying them. The concrete and tarmac I can probably handle by hiring a concrete shaver from HSS or similar.

Any idea how much this should cost, and do I need a driveway specialist or is it something an average builder can do?

Many thanks.

The concrete that you mention is a row of path edgings/pin kerbs. Rather than 'shaving' them it would be easier to replace them - they're cheap and you'll never grind them down to a pleasing profile. Easy job but beware services, esp hidden below spec fibre optic.

Is the tarmac yours to shave ?

Thanks for the tip on the path edgings.

It's not my tarmac, but I'm only taking about 2cm max off a six inch strip next to the driveway. Do you think this would be a big deal?

I could never recommend that - if you took the path edgings out then hit the edge of the tarmac all of the way along with a sledge hammer to break up the high bit and laid your new path edgings at the correct height, you'd have a choice: either trim the tarmac with a Stihl saw to 90% of it's depth, carefully remove the waste and retarmac or tell the council that their pavment is knacked next to your drive and wait for goodness knows how long.
