Here's an interesting news snippet from Mulsanne Corner concerning the Delta Wing and their 'new' monocoque.

Seems the AMR-One may be at Le Mans next year even if AMR have a change of heart.

There really is a remarkable aversion to change on Pistonheads!

I think one of the virtues of Sportscar racing is the way it embraces varying answers to the same problem, but it open top/coupe, petrol/deisel, Normal car/weird pointy thing - whilst I am not a huge fan of the concept, I am keen for yet another take on car design to be included.

There seem to be some on here who just want Le Mans to be 50 Corvettes!

Quite. An innovative entry, that isn't a diesel, that isn't taking the place of another qualified/invited entry and it gets nothing but grief, mainly as it's a bit different.

Paint it in blooming pale blue and orange and I bet it would get some support

I hope the Delta Wing is a succes but I just dont see where its going to get any pace from.

I know these guys obviously know what they are doing but the front track width seems a little too skinny for high speed cornering. I'd be a bit nervous gunning it into Porsche curves with such narrow track.....

Must admit, understeer was the first thing that came to mind, with that configuraton. Can you imagine though, the sight of that thing screaming into Arnage, with exhausts aglow. I used to have a Scalextric type set, with two deltawing jet fighters instead of cars, wonder if they got the idea from that ?

I think oversteer is going to be a big problem too, so much weight at the back end and the funky layout is going to be a nightmare. Will be interesting overtaking slower cars when you cant really judge where the back end is, that is if they need to overtake slower cars..

Yea that's my thoughts exactly. Also Midweek Motorsport mentioned last week that the AMR-One Tub 'has been sold to the Delta Wing Project' so maybe rumour is now fact?

Haha yeah I have that feeling. In all seriousness, if it is slower than GTE AM cars at the test day then they should rethink allowing it to race. Does it even have to qualify or set a certain time by having the 'special invite'?

RCE - "delta wing is using a 1600cc engine for its Le Mans car, anyone know what engine it is?"

Also, using Michelin tyres. Only 4 inches wide at the front! Using two AMR-One tubs, RCE hint it could be the end of the Aston project. They were planning on building 6 tubs I think though so maybe not quite dead yet.

I quite agree. At the Classic I got all giddy waiting for the Howmet to come round just to hear the turbines. Next year could be the same but with the delta wing. It'll be interesting to see what sort of performance they get and I guess it won't run just to be a mobile chicane, it will have to be competitive to be safe.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to seeing this now.... You can't deny its an interesting bit of engineering and I can imagine its super fast on the straights. Just not sure I want to be standing at Porsche curves when this thing looses it....
