Hello.Just bought a tasmin for a project and need to know some things. It is silver gold in colour but has been painted a rather bad peachy gold,I would like to do it its correct colour,is there many variants on this silver gold colour which i can still see clearly under the bonnet( its a 83 series 2 by the way)AND MIGHT ANY ONE KNOW THE NAME OF THIS COLOUR,or can you tell me where the code might be located on the car. Also the car has not had a bang or anything but the tailgate glass does not seem to fit flush with the back pillars when its closed ,is this normal where they a rather less than perfect fit? Theres some other things I need to know but lets take it slowly, any help would be much appreciated. . (its a plus 2 i now know)

Have a look at this it might help you out!

You will find a body code on the chassis plate on n/s front wing, I think this relates to the colour.

YES THATS THE ONE, NEEDS SOME WORK.NOT SURE ABOUT THE WINDOW SURROUNDS ALSO, ANYONE GOT A CLOSE UP OF THEIR CAR SHOWING HOW THEY ARE MEANT TO BE FINISHED. THERE DOESENT APPEAR TO BE ANY FINISHING TRIM JUST BONDING SEALENT WHICH HAS ALMOST PERISHED EXPOSING THE EDGE OF THE WINDSREEN AND QUARTER LIGHTS, IT WOULD BE HELPFULL TO SEE A PHOTO OR TWO.

That's is how the front, rear side and small rear window is fixed in mine. Somehave a beading trim around the windscreen but it doesn't do anything other then look nice.

Hallsie on here has a 280 2+2 as well so he will be able to help you with some things.

Hello and thanks for any info you can give me.First things first and its a big first or should I say two big fists if thats possible. When I bought the car I was not aware it was a 2 plus 2.The reason for that (can you guess?)theres no rear seats.Further reading about such things as the position of the fuel fillers caps being rearward made me realise what I had purchased ,that and the chassy number.Someone has, in the infinate wisdom removed the seats and replaced them with two lock up storage compartments. So there lies my first problem I need to manufacture some seats,Iam very resourseful but do need to see something, as in how they are constructed (ie what the upholstery is wrapped around). There are lots of other things that need attention but this is one the biggest.Hows that for a start?

well, its been changed from brown leather/vinyl to black either by dying or something some places still are brown. The carpets where beige but are now black, the seats are leather outers with beige velour centres, again black leather but would have been brown .Any seats are better tnan no seats evan if there pink with blue spots it all needs a good sorting anyway, fingers are crossed.

That sounds correct. Some cars had the gap around the windscreen filled-in but it often leads to water being trapped which then gets drawn into the edge of the screen glass causing delamination (look for milkiness around the edge of the glass).

Nice to see another FHC on the road. Looking at my 1981 standard colour range swatch there is a gold with colour ref 30792/60, but this a very limited colour range and there were plenty of others. Your may be a standard Ford colour (as mine is).

Re the back window - yours sounds normal as the pillars don't follow the curve of the glass. At the top and bottom the glass sits in around 5mm but in the middle it curves out and overlaps the pillar. It rattles a bit so I discreetly stuck some black tape on the inside of the pillars to soften the noise.

Hope that helps, look forward to seeing yours.

James

Thanks for the info on the rear window.I thought as much ,there not made to close tolarances but I love them all the same.As for the paint i think the body code should give me some indication of that.If not I can match it up to the colour under the bonnet which still is clear to see, regards, Karl.
