About this insurance quote which is £2200 to the other 30 insurers quotes which are £3400 to £3500. Could this be some sort of scam, and would I have any comeback if it was? (Yes, I have trust issues!)

Is the quote via a comparison web site (e.g. Confused.com) or direct from the insurance co?

Direct from the company.

Theyre also cheaper on the comparison sites but not by such a huge margin (£500 rather than £1200)

I read all the terms and conditions and under cancellation it says the insurer may cancel the policy at any time with 7 days notice. Also, you lose 20% of your premium + 8% per month if this happens. So basically the scam is they cancel in the first month and just pocket the cash I suppose. Is that even legal?

They would need a reason to cancel it, e.g. you've changed cars and they don't cover the new one. I think most insurers have it in their small print that they can cancel with 7 days notice.

Which company is it?

What is the deal with you getting £3500 quotes if you don't mind me asking?

Is it just age?

Yeah there's some negative reviews there, to be fair you can probably turn up negative reviews of any company you search for though.

They're a legit company who can only operate within the law and the FSA rules, it looks like their service may leave a lot to be desired, but at £1000 cheaper than the nearest competitor I think I'd be prepared to chance it!

Either that or keep searching, I recommend Greenlight Insurance and Flux's.

Yeah, being 18 does that to your quotes.

Insurance is such a total pile of bullst. If they at least provided a decent service for these extortionate fees it would be bearable, but condition-less cancellation clauses with no refunds - refusal to continue policies after a write-off - and of course, it's mandatory so they have a captive audience they can fk with as much as they want and there's nothing you can do about it. Really grinds my gears...

Porsche 924.

Just got this from Sabre after adding parents...

Total Premium:
£1770.26

£1770 to drive legally, and if I make a claim it's a 100% chance of write-off and policy cancellation because my car is so worthless.

Because the risk being insured isn't the damage to your vehicle - it's the risk probability of the damage you cause to others in an accident...

No online quotes frown

I hate phoning up insurers, because it invariably ends in "too young, get lost" :/

Brokers rarely have online quotes in my experience. At least the good ones.

For a Porsche you need a specialist. Have you tried the owners club and their specialist insurers?

Yes, I know, but I was making a different point to the usual "WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY £1000000! My car is worth a tenner!" nonsense. If my car was worth more, they wouldn't invariably write it off and cancel the policy. It's the possibility of crashing in the first month, having to make a claim, and then having to take out ANOTHER insurance policy on a new car afterwards while still paying the full year for the first policy that worries me.

All the companies that apparently used to insure young drivers on classics/specialist have a "no under 25's" rule now. I phoned up a few before giving up in disgust...

Just a thought but why not content yourself with car with a lower insurance rating for a few years and build up a no claims discount. Meanwhile you could save up...
No wait 18. Never mind.

Because a 1.2 Corsa is £1400 and I'm willing to pay the £400 difference for the chance to not drive a horrible little tin can powered by a hairdryer.

Ah ok. I thought some enlightened ones still existed. Are you the only driver or is it multiple (genuine) users?
