I was talking to a mate from NZ a while back about the situation in Drag Racing out there.

A couple of the tracks have affiliated with IHRA as the sanctioning body, moving away from NZDRA who used to sanction the racing.

This has caused a lot of talk about dual licencing and scruitineering and racers who are licenced by IHRA not being able to race at tracks sanctioned by NZDRA and vice versa.
It looks like there will be two seperate National championships and champions at the end of the next season.

This rang a distant bell, didn't we have a similar situation here back in the '80s, when the then owners of The Pod affiliated with IHRA and broke away from the RACMSA, where cars could run at Avon Park (As it was then) but not at The Pod and the other way around and the situation was only resolved when IHRA pulled out, or was this part of the NDRC/BHRA in fighting and the years are just dimming my memory?

I'm thinking that now, National licencing is handled by the MSA and International licencing by the FIA??

The Pod didn't become affiliated with the IHRA until the early 1990's when the new owners decided that was the way to go. The NDRC went under in 1987, so the two are not connected.

No, when the Pod was affiliated to the IHRA, the meetings still had both an ACU and RAC permits, and ACU and RAC Stewards.
