I'll keep this as brief as possible....The Thermostatic cartridge has packed up on my shower. It's made by Hudson Reed. Got onto Hudson Reed and was informed that the price would be £115. I thought that was a bit steep so after some detective work I found this:

http://de.hudsonreed.com/product/Hudson_Reed_Therm...

As you will notice this product is advertised on Hudson Reeds German website at a price of 37 Euros.

I phoned Hudson Reed UK back and said I have seen the thermostat advertised on the German website and I want it at that price. I'm sorry sir was the answer, you have to order it in the UK if you want delivery to the UK.

Funny because the Germans will send it to Belgium, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain & Austria but not the UK.

Whats fking worse is that when you click on the contacts section of the GERMAN website it give you UK contact details.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH mad

Very vague answer (for whcih I apologise), but isn't there some EU anti-something law which means you can buy from anywhere in the EU? I recall that the Olympics couldn't prevent German/French/Spanish websites from selling tickets to Brits under the same legislation.

Failing that, find a PH-er in Germany and ask nicely.

I do happen to have a Belgian mate who is, in fact, a plumber and I'm getting him to get it for me. But THAT'S NOT THE POINT! curse

Or failing that, replace the whole tap unit. It may work out cheaper than paying for their rip off spares price.

Outrageous, but I am not exactly surprised.

Disgraceful

Would be a good idea to do a 'thermostat run' to Germany. Open an Ebay shop over here & sure you could sell them at say £75 a go. That'll teach them!

Is that not in contravention of EU laws on free trade? Like the pub land lady with the greek satellite subscription for sky sports?

Is that not illegal under EU rules, free trade yada yada?

Maybe a German PHer can help you - ie take delivery and post it on. I'd ask on that forum wink

Good to know you had the answer before you posted, but as I came to the same conclusion it must be right!

Seems a shame to blame a whole country for the actions of one (foreign?) firm.

Why is it cheaper to fly to the USA from France, Spain etc., than it is to fly from the UK to the USA.

Soon they will have to offer sale to every UK nation. They might put you off with shocking delivery charges though.

Lord benny.

The one I have in the van is different to your one. If you email me the model of your shower I can get you a price, which should be significantly cheaper as I have an account with the group
