Hi,

I'm obviously not very good at using Google! smile

I'm trying to find what the current regs are regarding the distances invloved (minimum specifically) regarding siting an LPG or oil-fired boiler near an opening window.

I've found various things about the external flue being 300mm or more away from any opening, but nothing specific about siting of the actual boiler on the internal wall.

Anyone help point me in the right direction please?

Thanks,
Steve

It's all about the flue. The flue can't be within a certain distance of an opening window as you say.

On an internal wall, the boiler can be hung next to a window, but the flue tip will have to be a certain distance.

What he said.

IIRC it is 300 mm horizontally from an opening in a building for natural gas (not sure whether it differs for different fuels).

I know in some instances, the distance can be reduced to 150mm if a Plume Management Kit is used.

Sounds like it's an internal window problem, but if it is external, you can permanently seal the window making it non opening.

Thanks for the info gents.

It is an external window, and we don't want to seal it, hence wanting to know how far away from it we need to site the boiler.

So it doesn't matter if the boiler's right next to the window as long as the flue going outside is 300mm or more away from the opening on the outside?

Wasn't sure if there was a minimum distance internally in case of things like blowing the pilot light out from a draught through the window.

I don't know (and can't find) any reg regarding distance of boiler from a window. I am assuming you are talking about a room sealed boiler.

As regards the flue termination - the min. distance from an opening varies depending wether it's below, above or to the side. There's a useful diagram (B) here....................

At the end of the day the manufacturers installation instructions must be adhered to.

Hi Dicky,

Yes, a room-sealed boiler (possibly will be a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30CDi Regular or similar) to run the wet UFH and provide hot water to the cylinder.

Thanks for that link - very helpful. We're just trying to lay out the way the new utility room will look so we can tell the electricians and plumber where cables, pipes, etc. will need to be.

Cheers,
Steve

New boilers don't have a pilot light :-)

Also, as mentioned you can get plume diverter kits which although not very pretty, it sticks to regs and depending what is on the wall outside, it might not be seen (?).

Or you could flue it up through the roof maybe. But then you still have regulations about distances from windows, veluxes etc..
