I've got one of those wire lighting systems, where there are five 20w 12v halogens each between two parallel wires running across the ceiling, which in turn are linked to a transformer. You know the sort of thing.
Anyway, it seems the transformer is dead (unless all five bulbs blew simultaneously). The fuse inside it is fine, and I have continuity across every joint, including in the wall switch.
Any ideas where I can get a new transformer? All I can find is either whole systems (and I don't need all the extra wires or lamps) or individual transformers for halogen downlighters.
TIA

5 x 20 is 100W so if the transformer is good for 100W+ it should be OK no?
 Idunno.
The standard transformers aren't any use due to the length of the parallel cable thats on your setup.
Best bet may be to take your gubbed transformer round a few electrical wholesalers and see if they can source one.
I fear you may have to buy a new kit.......

Any toridial transformer of the relevant VA will suffice, you can use one of the above designed to be surface mounted or recess one, beware they're fairly heavy you'll want good fixings (esp. the 300VA above). Electronic transformers may play up on wire systems. before buying any parts make sure the LV connections at the tranny end are secure, they carry about 9 amps and can & do fail. Don't be afraid to chuck all that wire rope tatt in the bin and install something decent.
