Big engines/small engines. Running costs.
Discussion
On paper the costs don't seem that much different, car in question was a 330 but now i'm looking at a smaller engine, probably a family 1.6 (golf/audi/seat for example). So assuming both cars would be fairly reliable, just how much difference would there be?
Might as well add other cars i've looked at like the Cupra 180 Mk1.
Mainly interested in day to day stuff & if the difference wasn't too much i'd most likely go for something like the Leon.
My current car is a 1.25 Zetec which is fantastic, no need to keep an eye on the fuel like in the Alfa, so not sure i could give that up too easy for a thirstier engine.
Thanks.

When i was considering the 330, i wanted a good all rounder & the main thing was the performance side of things. But after thinking about it, i could live without the power & hopefully save a few quid.
Which is where i found the Cupra, which would be cheaper to buy & i'm guessing the parts would be a bit cheaper. Fuel from what i've read will be very similar.
So then i thought about an even smaller engine car but one that still has enough power to safely maneuver.
And that's when i made this topic, because a 1.6 may only be slightly better then a Cupra for example.

A 1.6 non turbo in a recent medium hatch is going to be quite slow due to the massive bulk it's hauling.
From what i've read the Alfa 147 1.6 does a good job with 120bhp but it also likes to drink like the 2.0 so i guess you can't have one without the other. (with these new heavy cars anyway)A lot of these car reviews seem to like the 1.6's as a good all rounder. But i guess we all have very different preferences. I'm guessing my 80bhp Fiesta with it's power/weight ratio would be a bit quicker then a lot of these 1.6's.
