x10 might, maybe using the pc interface and try to get the iphone to talk to the pc?

I'm sure the GadgetShow tested one of these last year but I can't remember the manufacturer or product name. Not very helpful sorry

Looked into that x10 stuff. There appears to be lots of kit i'd need to do a fairly simple task.

Was looking for a 1 box solution ideally... I'll keep looking!

I use Z-wave to do some stuff

I use iVera on the iPhone to control a MiCasaVerde hub which is used to configure lights, switches, CH, water heater etc. It works reliably well but there is a restricted product range and it is quite expensive.
