Can anyone advise me on some great routes around the UK?

Evo triangle is on my list for a driving trip, and around the cotswolds but any advise on great places (and also areas to avoid) would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! L

There's a lot of b-roads around Staffordshire/Derbyshire which are very good. Particuarly if you head up towards Buxton and around that area.

A272 goes all the way from Salisbury to Haywards Heath, and is a great drive. Can get busy at times but there are plenty of places to slip by slower cars.

I was put off that area after seeing signs saying "helicopter speed enforcement" I assume they mean that helicopters are used to catch speeders

North Wales. Snowdonia, Betws-y Coed, Cearnarfon, etc... All stunning in that area.

It's very rare the Helicopters are ever actually up to be honest. Think I've seen it up once one day going across the A537 Cat n Fiddle road.

Doesn't Cat n Fiddle have average speed cameras on now?

what car Laura?

Evo triangle might be right for powerful high speed modern cars but there are many more interesting road even in that area for less powerful moderns, smaller and/or classic cars

it does indeed, but imo, you would need a bike or a VERY fast car (exige would probs do it) to average 50 between macclesfield and the C&F

great roads can be found everywhere to be honest. you just need to be prepared to lose a day or two and go down roads that you have never been down before and see where they take you! this is my method for going out for drives in the Lomax! 30 minute drives often tend to turn into 3 hour drives tongue out

the trouble with Known driving roads is that the coppers haunt them and they are opened out by authorities as they get more traffic because they are KNOWN by everyone! i have a lovely little hour or so route that takes in load of twisties, but i wouldn advertise the route as a widely known petrol head hot spot, because it isnt smile

plenty og good roads with next to no traffic just not suited to the larger modern more powerfull cars - which is a good thing as it leaves them for us with older less powerful cars biggrin

Head north off the M4 at j46 towards the Black Mountains, generally deserted - perfect territory for a Scooby or EVO

a57 snakes pass is the uk's best road, the feeling hammering up towards the summit dawn breaking as you climb through the mist, matt munro playing on the stereo you could be in the alps, driving perfection. Park on thee summit and let on the car cool then kill the brakes on the way down. Just remember to slow it down before the straight before ladybower as the police love that bit (in their unmarkeed van!)

Various threads on here covering the Scottish Highlands, having just returned from terrorizing the area for a couple of weeks I can honestly say nothing compares. Long way to go (unless you are GetCarter) but well worth it. Everything above Glasgow and left of Inverness is epic.
