Well folks, after just over six years the battery has finally died. Just wondered what output battery are people using.

Thanks.
Rob.

Replaced mine in July with a Varta Blue Dynamic E24

630 CCA 70 Ah

Tried hard to find the correct spec and it took some digging around to find a 630 CCA battery.

The car has never turned over so fast, came in at £95.48 from the local battery shop but after two months I am very happy with it.

Car is on an Accumate for 3 months at a time but never failed to start first time so far

Just about to do this too.. Any suggestions?

Also any tips when I come to take it out?

Mine is a later chim so I believe I'll need to access the bolts under the car to free the box the battery sits in?

Before you undo the bolts, lift the carpets and very clearly mark the position of the battery box!

I'll second the point above re: marking the battery box position.

When you remove the carpet and bulkhead trim and get down to the floor it will be dusty and dirty so a quick clean and then mark the box position with indelible felt tip marker. Anything like pencil runs the risk of being wiped off when you pull the battery box forward.

When you replace the two bolts from under the car into the box add some sealant or new rubber washes to prevent any water getting in from under the car.

Also, a head torch is useful as you need both hands in a rather restricted space.

We went for the ABX AGM battery too. Not cheap but a 5 year guarantee and 750 cranking power. Spill and leak proof, even upside down. No issues in the 2.5 years its been on.

Argent, what's the cold cranking power of the Bosch?

My mate has a Halfords trade card that I could make use of!

Cheers!

Couldn't find the Bosh HSB072 at Halfords only the 075?

Is there much difference?

Halfords do their own 072 tho; any good?

CCA for the 072 is 630, never used Halford's batteries myself but some on here seem happy with them.

Err, the car only uses the amps that the starter draws, not the total the battery can deliver. smile. I have a Bosch silver 075 in mine and just used the 5 year guarantee today as the last one short circuited after five months..

So what's the difference between the 075 and the 072?

M@H does the 075 fit in the box ok?

I have the one you need to remove the bolts from underneath..

Thanks

Yep, Its a 630 CCA battery it fits fine (just). I have a 96 with the battery box bolted to the floor (its only the 1993-4 years that had it over the top IIRC).
