Simple.

Sigh I wanted to create a poll. Thought there'd be an option after you've created the thread. Anyone able to recreate this thread, but with a poll for me? Or could a moderator give me poll access?

No contest.

The pug is likely to be a bag of dust held together by filler and hope, the underpinnings will be baggier than Barbara Windsors funbags and the it'll blow more smoke than a street corner chav. The magic's long gone.

You can't kill an MX5 they're age immune, incredibly reliable and the fun starts the moment you throw back the top.

MX5, no question at all unless I really really needed token back seats.

I think you have that the wrong way round! 205s don't really suffer from rust... MX5s on the other hand wink

I've had an MX5, so I'll have a nice 205 gti-6 please smile

The right to start polls has to be granted by a mod, try asking in Website Feedback.

Having owned both I'd say the MX5.

Whilst a fantastic car, I remember the 205 annoying me every time I went to get a part for it. It seemed like you couldn't just buy a wheel nut, you had to buy the whole suspension. You could couldn't buy just a window winder, you had to buy the whole door.

You get the drift.

With an MX5 you might, with the 205 all you can get is lift-off oversteer though! hehe

The 205 comes from an era of hot hatches that were constantly competing with each other over 0-60 times and handling capabilities. Very little in the way of safety or driver aids were thought neccessary on hot hatches in those days. Which is why the 205 was one of the finest. In it's day the 205 was breathtakingly fast, angry, intense. Most people I knew with 205's crashed them. I'm not kidding either. The handling was sublime but it had to be driven well. A brilliant car.

MX5. erm, well not really in the same leaugue simply because it was a "watered down" sportscar from the go. they deliberately designed it to be slower that it looked. It's a good car. But cant live up to the greats imho.

How slow do you think an MX5 is? Here are some 0-60 times courtesy of google:

205 GTI 1.6 - 8.9
205 GTI 1.9 - 8.1
MX5 Mk1 1.6 - 9.2
MX5 Mk1 1.8 - 8.3

Yeah, the "breathtakingly fast, angry, intense" 205 is heaps faster... rolleyes

Wouldn't want neither but if I was forced to it would be a 205, couldn't own a hairdressers car.

205. I'm on my 7th. Chuck in a gti6 lump and you have a reliable fairly modern engine and it's bloody fast! All 205's were galvanised so don't rust that bad.

Mx5, without question. The gti was a good car but the mx5 is genuinely great at what it does. Lot of other stuff did what the gti did at the time but nothing in the price or category touches the mx5. Ive driven a lot of fast and exotic stuff but the feedback and involvement of an mx5 on good b roads is still very rewarding.

Good answer.

Seems like a 50/50 split.
