Sadly, the little Chinese lady who ran the Asian stall in the indoor market has retired. Her stall was brilliant, it had everything you could possibly want within an area approximately 2 square meters.

This closure does cause me problems though, as I now need to find an alternative supplier of weird oriental delights.

Any recommendation in the east Cheshire/south manchester areas?

If stoke isn't too far then freshways in cobridge is, frankly, incredible. There are quite a few smaller shops on waterloo road that will be up your street.

There's a thai run shop on nantwich road in crewe which is very well stocked, but comparatively expensive.

Haven't been to pak but having just seen a photograph on it's website i can confidently say that freshways is much more disorganised and chaotic!

There are a few decent ones I could recommend in Liverpool . . . .which is probably no use to you biggrin

One thing you could do, is visit your favourite Chinese and ask who their supplier is smile

Wing Yip, near Ancoats, Manchester city centre should cover all your needs, in is like downtown Shanghai on a Sunday morning as all the local takeways/restaurants re-stock.

Stop on Thomas street for a beer on the way home and watch Manchester recover from its hangover.

Does depend on how far South of Manchester you are but worth a trip.

Is that the one with a restaurant above?
Worth going there for lunch if I recall!

Aye, i've been to that one a few times. Good for perving at the Ferrari dealership too.

Wing Yip have stores in Cricklewood and Croydon, they are pretty amazing places.

http://www.wingyip.com/page-491.html

They do a complete roasted duck complete with head and feet lol, its sold in a cardboard box with a small tub of soy sauce, it looks shocking but tastes lovely.

No matter how off beat recipes have been ive always found the ingredients at Wing Yip.

the one nr the dealership on upper brook st is WH Lung.

wing yip is on oldham road and is massive. shaped like a crash between a pagoda and a warehouse, it's got a [really rather good] restaurant, hair salon, travel agent etc. above it too.

every time i've been there alwasys seems to be some kind of celebration going on at the restaurant and so the car park is stuffed full of high end cars.

disappointingly, the japanese and thai selection is a bit poor for the size of the place. there used to be a great thai supermarket in chinatown but i'm not sure if it still exists.

Just having a chat with my mum regarding prices. She told me she bought 13kg of ginger from an Asian supermarket for £6.50
