Being an aged git, I am fairly new to this internet forum malarkey. I've enjoyed browsing this part of the PH site, but wondered if there are any dedicated watch forums that you chaps can recommend?

On a related note, do any of you take any watch magazines on a regular basis? I buy QP from time to time but it's quite expensive at £6.50 an issue.

Thanks in advance.

Only just joined myself http://www.tz-uk.com/forum/index.php I know quite a few PHers are on there too. I've also read that it can take a while for your application to be approved, though mine took a matter of minutes.

TZ-UK is the best watch forum I visit, although it's far from perfect.

Others include

www.thewatchforum.co.uk - UK based forum. More focussed on vintage / budget stuff. Used to be quite lively, but very quiet now.

http://forum.atgvintagewatches.com - Small UK based forum. Quite serious & not very busy, but with some very knowledgeable members. Contains the official Bremont (sub) forum, so don't go slagging off Bremont.

http://www.thedivewatchconnection.com - The only American watch forum I actually like.

http://www.vintagerolexforum.com/ - Clunky format, but a good info source for Vintage Rolex as you'd expect.

and a couple I don't like

http://forums.watchuseek.com - Heavily sponsored, heavily moderated.

http://forums.timezone.com/ - Heavily sponsored, even more heavily moderated.

As for magazines. I used to subscribe to QP, but now I get Watch Time. Coming from America it's not exactly cheap, but compared to QP it tends to feature a higher proportion of more affordable watches as well as high end stuff.

I'd only add the Military Watch Resource http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/index.php which could be described as 'curmudgeonly', although most of the pre-2007 posts and knowldge base is absent (but available on CD), there is a wealth of knowledge about the most obscure of things.

A few foreign language ones are quite good, http://forumamontres.forumactif.com/ and http://forum.chronomania.net/mix.php in French and http://orologi.forumfree.it/ in Italian.

http://ninanet.net/watches/launchpad.html , http://scubawatch.org/ and http://lesmala.net/ are good little reference sites as well, worth a browse.

(That's a gorgeous Tudor on ATG at the moment btw wink )

I hadn't noticed it had gone boxedin - someone bagged a good one then. Testicles no longer on the Tims household menu I take it!

Andy, you can get a subscription direct from the UK distributor which works out a lot cheaper than the US. I posted some details on TZ a while ago about this - let me know if you want them and I'll dig them out.

I'd appreciate that too, if that's ok. Much obliged in advance.

Additionally, many thanks for the forum and magazine suggestions. I've had an enjoyable time this wet afternoon having a good old look around the various websites.

One more question if I may - what's the deal with registering on TZ-UK? I cannot seem to do it! Is it some kind of gentlemen's club?

Try during office hours on a week day and allow a bit of time for it all to go through i.e. you won't be "accepted" instantly. It's set up that way so hopefully not every Tom/Dick/Harry/scammer etc can sign up.

Ok,as promised above:

You can buy Watch Time in the WHSmiths concession in Selfridges.

Alternatively, the distributor is http://www.magazinecafe.co.uk/. Although the magazine is not listed on their website, if you email them,(I think they have a "contact us" form on the website) they will sell you either individual copies or a subscription. I know this as I ordered a copy direct from them last year, when I missed it in Smiths.

Hope this helps.

These two are insane. The heavy-handedness and arbitrary nature of the moderation is beyond belief. They're brilliant as reference works, but as a place to just shoot the breeze about watches? Hopeless.

Worked example: there's a tale on TZ-UK about someone who was banned from Timezone.com for posting a picture of a watch they "have sold, are selling, or may sell in the future".

I occasionally buy QP and Watch World magazines smile I tend to find them in WHSmith and Sainsbury's! Not exactly cheap though, in comparison to car magazines - £7 an issue!
