I found the NFU to be excellent until this year (I have a Disco3) when the premium went up ~20%, so switched to Direct Line, who were £200 cheaper than NFU.
The rule with insurance is ring round, lots!
NFU wanted 2.5x what A-Plan were wanting!! Looks like I have a fun weekend ahead but like you said, if a day glued to the web/phone saves £200 it's well worth it.The rule with insurance is ring round, lots!
I've had my Defender with NFU for 4 years but the renewal has just come back up 50% on last year, with no change in my circumstances.
Phone op told me it was due to uninsured drivers, personal injury claims etc, but apparently one of the newspapers had a story recently about a plague of sheep rustling/plant theft hitting NFU's typical clientele.

Tried for a quote with AF, but they 'couldn't' proceed without knowing the total paid on a claim on my wife's car 3 1/2 years ago, which is information we don't have. I wasn't prepared to guess as operator suggested, as if I'm wrong it would undoubtedly invalidate any future claim
Will stick with NFU as despite the increase it's still cheaper than AF indicated on initial enquiry
