Wasp nest in loft
Discussion
Whilst doing some work in the loft today I discovered a very large (size of 2 footballs) wasp nest hidden away in a hard to get to corner. Now I was working up there for about an hour within 1 meter of the nest and didn't see any sign of any wasps, my suspicion is that it is an old one from several years ago when we did notice a lot of wasps going into the loft through a gap. At the time I treated the area with off the shelf wasp powder and filled the gap they were using and that seemed to be the end of the problem.
Given that this nest seems to be inactive and is in a very awkward to get to space, is is safer to just leave it ? It might be possible to get a bag underneath it but that area of the loft has no boarding so it's not easy to get to.

I had one in my garage loft a couple of years ago and noticed it was active. It wasn't as large as yours, probably the size of a large melon.
I just waited to winter when the wasps were dead or dormant and then removed it. I crushed the nest and discovered that there was a large queen still in it.
