Yesterday morning I was meant to be going with a really good friend of mine to Bath, however I didn't get up in time and I am very lucky that I am lazy. The reason for this is, my friend was traveling along the A36 in a national speed limit section, when a car coming towards her was on her side of the road.

From my understanding so far, she swerved out of the way into a hedge, but hit something which then spun back her into the path of the oncoming car. Both cars collided (Vw Golf and my friend in her 206), hitting my friend on her passenger side, which totally deformed this part of the car, leaving the 206 resembling a 3 seater, that's how badly it deformed. Very scary stuff, as I am always in her car, in that seat. Well my friend had to be cut from her car with a suspected broken leg and right arm. Once she was air lifted to the RUH, it transpired that she hadn't broken anything, but has done some muscle and tissue damage. Oh and covered in glass!

The guy in the VW was distracted from his little one in the back, or might have been on the phone. Either way, a short slip of concentration, has resulted in this mess. Anyway, he was ok and was released from hospital yesterday. As for his kid in the back, I don't know anything about his condition, but I can imagine he is ok, as no one has mentioned him.

Both cars are right offs. The golf now looks like a polo and the 206 is now a convertable 3 seater. Very scary stuff to look at and is sending shivers down my spine now.

2)

After a great meal with my parents and brothers, I was following my dad home, all was fine apart from the horrible weather. Well this was soon to become not so much of an issue, as at the top of my dads road is a very nice hotel, with a very intoxicated chef which got sent home. Here is where the trouble started, as said chef came absolutely hammering it down this very twisty road and from where it was raining, the surface was very slippery.

Cue the chef colliding with my step mums BMW X1, but with the speed he was going, this didn't slow him down. I was behind watching what was unfolding in front of me, so I swerved up a kerb, but not in enough time, as I was then hit by said driver. The noise was incredibly loud, but the driver didn't stop. Infact I would have said he was gaining more momentium. For me this is a massive pet hate (still don't know he is drunk at this point), so I make chase after this guy and being that my car was much faster than his, it didn't take long for me to catch up with the chef. Infact by the time I got onto the main road, he pulled over.

We then exchanged words and I said "instead of going through insurance, we will assess the damage and then go to a cash point and sort this out", to which he agreed, I told him that I would follow him and I refused to move until this happened (I was fuming at this point, but trying to keep a level head).

Well this guy tried to get away again, but he had to stop for a set of lights and I got out and told him to stop "fking around and let's just sort this out". Well I ended up following the chef back to this hotel and I was greeted by a welcome party of managers and staff. As the chef got out of his car and I spoke to him properly, his breath stunk of booze, to which my heart sunk. I have seen this stuff on TV and here we are, with a chef which couldn't stand up and two damaged cars.

The police were then called and turned up in minutes. However the chef kept trying to walk off, but was quickly handcuffed and refused to blow into their breath thingy. Back at the station, the chef refused to provide two samples of breathe and will be sitting infront of her majestrates. Part of the sample he did blow was reading at 96.

Cut to 1.30am and all the statements had been taken and I was allowed home. To say I didn't sleep this morning, would be the right assumption. Today has sucked, not even a glass of red helped with I finally got home.

I hope I haven't bored anyone, but I thought PH might be interested, due to both stories being car related biggrin.

Enjoy the rugby lads,
Vince

Go to a cash point and sort it out?! rofl

So, he's hit a BMW X1 and your vehicle and you want to go to a cash point to get it sorted.

Ah well, if he was nicked and was insured, all's well that ends well.

At that point fella I really wasn't thinking straight. I did say for him to go back to the car, assess the damage and then if it wasn't major damage on my step mums car, we would settle it out of insurance. Now, it is going through insurance.

Also, if someone is drink driving, are they covered by their insurance?

(Great profile name by the way)

A bad day, but sounds like it could have been so much worse.
Glad you weren't in your friends car and are still here to tell the tale!

st day for sure. As the chef failed to provide, he will get an automatic ban when he gets to court. This will be disclosed to his insurers and will be considered in the overall view of the collision when deciding on liability. So look at it this way, he was pissed and got charged. He hasn't a leg to stand on attempting mitigation for causing the collision so possibly a tiny bit of consolation to you. Oh and if I were you, I'd keep a look out for him drink driving whilst disqualified (possibly the former definately the latter) in the future. aholes who do that put other peoples lives at risk and deserve everything they get.

Yes for third party damage/ losses only. His own losses are not covered.

Sorry to hear of your bad day & no you didn't bore me, but why say that? He might have been doing anything from picking his nose to reading a porno mag (yes, it has been known). Jumping to conclusions surely isn't going to help anything.

Vince, as long as he was insured, whether it be third party only or fully comp, his insurance will cover all of your damage etc, even if he was found to over the limit/didn't provide breath when asked.

That's a tale and a half, though as others have said, pleased no-one died in either event.

The first one sounds odd. She swerved out of the way of the car so early, that when she went into the hedge and hit something, she had time to be spun back into the path of the car she was trying to avoid?

Strange.

Glad everyone is ok anyway
