Hi all,

The old girl simply won't have it today. Parked up fine a couple of weeks ago after a healthy 100 mile drive, went under the cover, now very little happens on the last phase of turning the key!

Dash all good, shift lights flash as they should, voltage showing 12.6v, everything in the car works it simply won't prime the fuel pump nor turn the motor as if imobilised. First time anything like this has happened so looking for some much needed help.

Have tried both key and fob de-activate by the mirror switch on the alarm as it's similar to if I get in and don't start in time and the system, re-arms itself. Car locks and unlocks just fine.

Cheers
Peter.

Sounds like an immobiliser problem. Is the red light on the immobiliser slot going out when you put the fob thingy in?

Thinking along the same lines Tref, a push of the key fob makes the light go constant above the passenger door as it always used too but then goes out almost immediatly and starts to steadily flash. The light above the small fob slot on the mirror control plate does not show lit up at all now where as it did do before I disconnected the battery, I think. Doesn't change when I insert the small fob which has worked fine in the past.

Checked all fuses from battery compartment throught to the passenger foot well. The only one left is the 100 amp below the air filter box. This was changed recently for one of Powers 125amp units so not holding out much hope for that being the culprit. Relays all look clean & dry.

Have found the Alarm control unit and the remote signal unit (both branded Meta so assume alarm related) and not looking to unplug until I know it won't cause all manner of issues. Even Mr Varleys fine publication doesn't seem to offer any further ideas

Should my lack of any kind of electronic or mechanical skills above checking relays and fuses, who do you people suggest now I have moved down to deepest darkest Bicester, just off J10 off M40. Dom had the car most recently and isn't too far away if there is nobody closer given it's looking like a low loader trip

Many thanks in anticipation of help to get life into car before the snow arrives!

Bicester eh, closer to Str8Six too smile

Hmm, the light by the fob slot should come on after 6-7 seconds if you dont turn on the ignition. I'm not sure how the immobiliser is wired up. Do a search on the TVR sections of PH. There is an alarm expert called Carl Baker or similar, I'd suggest a call to him for suggestions as a next step, or TVR Power/Str8Six.

Cheers for Str8six steer Tref, about half way between them and Power so may see who has the most time available right now and get my recovery people to take it along for some attention.

Have tried unplugging and re connecting everything I can find and still nothing so save making it worse, it's time for the pro's to take over.

Any other solutons in the meantime will be greatly received!

Mine had a similar problem on Saturday, turned out to be a faulty starter motor relay. Lucily for me the car was already at str8six.

His starter motor isn't churning either though.

Neither did mine. I turned the key, set the full pump turned again and nothing.

My mistake, I misread your post, I thought you wrote fuel pump relay. Sorry!

Pete - take a look!

Got to love TVR's,

Jason at Str8six rang me first thing this morning and arranged collection for this afternoon after a very helpful chat. Travelled home to prepare the thing for it's brief holiday to find it started first time and did countless times while I swore loudly. Jason very kindly stood down the recovery truck that was on it's way. plan to send it over there anyweay full a full checkup as I now don't trust it to start.

Point of the final post is that the only difference between yesterday and today is the voltage was reading 12.4v yesterday and hadn't been on charge for a couple of weeks while I moved house, sat oustside under a cover. After a night back on the optimate shows 12.7v and spins like a good un. Can this small voltage drop result in 'clever' stuff from the car in not allowing things to start up.

Sure Jason will find nothing and put it down to a 'TVRism', but will check all the same and hat's off to him and his reaction given I not had dealings with him previously.

Thanks for the replies by the way guys.

Nice one.

I was at Str8Six this afternoon, they're great guys. I needed my HT leads replacing to sort a slight misfire on part throttle.

Glad to hear it started Pete.... it may just be an intermittant fuel relay or just a bit of corrosion on the relay connectors or TVRism!
