OK my Cayman S PDK is in for some damage repair after a non-fault accident and I had been given a 2010 M3 convertible auto as my loan car for the week. I have to say so far I am severely underwhelmed as it seem to have very light and vague steering, not handle brilliantly and you really have to boot the pedal to get it to move. The sound from the engine is muted to the point where you can't really tell its a V8. I am used to having the Porsche in sports plus mode and the sports exhaust on and the sound is intoxicating.

What am I missing with the M3? I have played with the settings but can't really see much difference and the car isn't supplied with a manual. I really wanted to enjoy it as I was thinking of something similar as my next car but at the moment i am just perplexed at how boring it appears to be

help!

manual? you said it was the auto (or DCT)?

If it is the DCT box then go into the M settings and set the gear change speed, steering feedback etc, also does it have EDC or not?

Plus it is a convertible so it is never going to feel as good as a coupe.

Yeah it's a DCT box, how do I know if it has EDC? Been into the M settings what does the setting do that allows you to select d1-6 or s1-6?

I'm not expecting it to be as dynamic as the coupe I just want it to sound like I thought it would and respond like a scalded rat

I have to say I am impressed with the lack of shake although I did chuck a load of water into the boot today because the roof was wet!

I am surprised how much exposed plastic there is inside (I am guessing this isn't highly specced as a hire car) is there an option when you buy one to have the upper dash and console leather trimmed? Can't see if it has an iPod dock or USB port fog the audio, where would I find those if they were fitted?

Plus it is a convertible so it is never going to feel as good as a coupe.

Do these have the 'M' button on the wheel? You never know, someone may have set it right already. I went on the Michelin launch tuther month, full of Porsche of all descriptions...another level to 'M' in the handling dept.

tried the M button and it doesn't really seem to make any noticeable difference frown

ok try googling E92 M3 launch control and follow the instructions (where safe obviously!), if it still leaves you cold after that then I really do suggest you just decide the M3 is not for you, got your car back and live happily everafter.
