300 Bhp Smartcar heat/noise

Hi Guys, I am nearing completion of my Smartcar and after a few runs now the heat and noise is getting unbearable, does anyone recommend a company or product for heatshield for engine, a turbo cover, exhaust wrap, pipe and wiring insulation etc?? I have ceramiclly coated the manifold but all to hot in such a small space

What have you done about improving the airflow in that area? Insulation will only slow down the heat transmission, unless you get that heat out of the engine compartment it will find its way through to you eventually.

There's a whole raft of stuff out there but I too would be looking at getting heat out rather than containing it - especially if your air intakes are also in there.

Is there any way you can fabricate a more substantial engine compartment, subtly run ducting to this and then vent warm air out somewhere?

Problem you'll face is that noise/heat insulation can be heavy. BUT check out the land rover specialists - I seem to recall seeing some foil backed self-adhesive matting that might help. I'll try to remember what the stuff was called.

Btw, had hoped to see car at Ashley but unfortunately circumstances conspired against me.

Re the air flow...good point I am thinking of putting two large circular holes in the boot lid to enable hot air to escape, I have noticed that if I close the windows and put the blower full on it keeps the cabin clear of hot air and fumes, so I am guessing there must be a higher pressure area engine side so maybe some cooling aids and holes in the boot lid may send the higher pressure hot air through the boot and not the cabin.

I assume that, by cutting holes, you mean some of the subtle inlets that quite a few of the tuning houses seem to have? Would be a shame to give the game away by having anything too obvious on there!

The 4two cup racing cars have a hole in the bootlid, not sure if its piped to a certain part or just a general vent hole for the rear end.

Another option could be to cut vents into the rear quarterlight plastic windows on the ForTwo, like on the Brabus V6 roadster.

Hey great pics! thank-you ....yes the Smart for 2 has a hole in boot exactly where I thought of putting mine...high pressure engine side -low pressure outside must result in flow of hot air out of engine bay....as for the ear plugs ha ha I might invest in a few pairs thanks again

is there any way you could get a duct running from the front bumper into the engine bay at all?
you can get all sorts of flexible hose these days or even the aluminimum duct work used in rangehoods and the like. if its positioned to pick up high presure air from the front of the car and run into the engine bay that might help push some of the heat out of the proposed hole.

is there room under the car for a duct? or maybe direct it down the cill/door frame and then out into the engine bay?
