Hi Toxic,
During winter I use 17" Style 158s, with Dunlop Winter Sports, on my E92 335i ~ no issues regarding clearing any of the brake gubbins and it rides like a limo compared to the 19"s it usually rides on . I can't think of a reason why 17" Style 161s wouldn't fit as well.

Cant see why not, I had a set of 17's with winter rubber on my E90 335D.

I think 17" Style 188 were standard UK fit on 335s, as per the info and photo in the following link.
