Hello,
Im relatively new to the TVR world having bought my Tuscan 2 s in January. The car has been perfect so fa, but today something strange happened. I was driving at around 45mph, and suddenly the engine cut out. I pulled over and the car re-started with no problems. I drove for another 30 minutes and the same thing happened again. Oil temp, pressure etc. all looked ok, and following the second cut out the car ran fine all the way home. So, I was wondering if any of the TVR experts here had any ideas as to what might be up?
Thanks

My first complete guess would be something like earth connections / electrical?
Maybe start by checking battery terminals, move on to earth points?
Oh and make sure the battery leads are not chafing against the chassis and shorting.
Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along soon.

Could be worth checking that you havent got anything resting against the immobiliser key that sits between the dash binnacle and the radio, mine did this when I first had it and found that the key was being moved by a pair of sunglasses resting on it.
Hope its something as simple as this.

Also check that all the fuses and relays are securly pushed into the fuse box. This sits just above the pedals in the drivers foot-well and I know of at least one occasion when a stray foot has kicked out the fuel pump relay.

You know what they say about people with big feet...Paul
It was dry when it happened, although the car does live outside and it has been raining a fair bit recently, so I can't rule out a bit of damp as a cause for an electrical fault. All the fuses appear to be fine. I will upgrade the 100A fuses and see how I get on. Thanks everyone for the advice.

ok....bit of an update. All the fuses seem ok, I have some 125A ones on order anyway.
Decided to take the car out tonight to see how things were. It ran perfectly for about 30 mins then cut out again. It restarted first time and was fine for about 20mins. I went to see a friend for a couple of hours, came out, started the car and almost immediately it cut out. Tried to restart it and this time the car just coughed a spluttered a bit and then wouldn't start at all. It turns over but just won't fire, won't even cough or splutter now. The engine is turning over at a good rate but there is no ignition. The AA came out and they seem to think it's a fuelling issue......but couldn't get it going and just took me home on the trailer. Any further ideas guys? I hear the fuel pump go when I get in, and there is plenty of fuel in the tank......bit confused.

Are there any other symptoms?
What exactly happens, is it just the engine that is affected or all the electrics? When it cuts out what happens, does it stutter or just die, what does the dash say, is there a smell of petrol from the engine bay, did they check for a spark?
The fuses can look ok but have small cracks in them, also when the car won't start does everything else work?
It is not uncommon for the relays in the immobiliser to give up and there are at least 2 circuits ignition and fuel pump.

Does the electric power cut too?
It sounds to me like a fuelling issue too. Have you checked the connections on the fuel pump? it gets pretty mucky down there (nearside rear wheel arch). Can also corrode, and its also easy to strip the threads if its a bit rusty, could be that you have a dodgy connection.
Failing that, i would look at the fuse box, the fuel pump relay and then possible fuel leaks, fuel tank etc. The rear fuel pipe between the tank and pump is know to perish, are you sure you havent got a leak? Its a good idea to replace with marine hose.

When the engine cuts out, it just stops, no coughs or splutters. It's just the engine, everything else is still working, all the electrics, and the dash has no warning/error notices. I haven't noticed any change in fuel consumption, and the car had it's 12000mile service in June so I would hope any majorly corroded hoses would have been picked up...but maybe not. The battery voltage is good. The AA guy tried to check for a spark but couldn't get the camshaft cover off. Also I wasn't that keen on him doing this in the pouring rain at the roadside. Before this the car was running perfectly.
Don't think its the immobiliser as the engine is still turning over. Whatever it is it's intermittent as the car started first time this evening, although cut out again shortly afterwards. It's off to the professionals at the weekend so we'll see what turns up. Thanks for all the advice though.
