I used to stretch ever morning for about half an hour and I really felt the benefits in doing so. I stopped about a year and half ago and only in the last few weeks have started again because I was feeling very stiff. It surprised me just how tight my muscles are, especially my hamstrings. I went to the Osteopath as I was feeling so very stiff.
I don't know anything about yoga, but my bese ever invesmnet was a £5 set of stretch bands from Tesco and a yoga mat that cost the same. Once you start, you'll really notice it when you stop. That's for sure

I enjoy yoga because it helps keep you flexible, but it is also very relaxing.
When I first get up in the morning, I can just put the tips of my fingers to the ground if I bend over. Once I have done a sun salutation (yoga exercise) then I can put my palms flat on the floor when bending over.
I would recommend a class for a beginner as it is easy to get some of the poses wrong which would do you no favours.
