There has been a few posts regarding once again how robust our engines and clutches are.

For the record: my cerb.

4.5 2001 - 65k no rebuild / one clutch

As far as I'm concerned a clutch is a consumable, just like brake pads and discs, and the wear rate is determined by driving style.

Indeed it is. No less than any other car out on the road. It's I guess more of an engine post really.

You did a very good job with the clutch, but 65k is not much for a v8 engine.

Nice to hear of another Cerb with reasonably high mileage on it to my shame, mine only has about 35k on it and is on the second clutch (and 3rd Slave cylinder Grrrr!!)

Just cos it hasnt had a rebuild doesnt mean it couldnt do with a refresh? I suspect that the shells for example will be pretty worn on a car with over 40K on it.
Anyway I havent had an AJP engine do more than 40K before a rebuild. I can understand what Jason is getting at re 'it will probably need another in 5 yrs time'.

Oil pressure on djstevec's 97k AJP suggests otherwise.

49,000 so far oil pressure etc bang on hot and cold,but i aint gonna tempt fate by putting this on here am i;).car has had a clutch and the usual other related parts done.So here is hoping

<50k miles and 1 new crank (with new shells) and oil pump rebuild around 35k miles, and bottom end rebuild about 500miles ago! New clutch at the same time though it didn't seem to be slipping or anything, was more a pre-caution whilst the engine was out.. (4.2, 97)

71k on my AJP and oil pressure is spot on & no major re-builds...

...but can use a bit of oil when driven 'enthusiastically'.

Yes if I wanted to have it refreshed I could but oil is spot on and pulls like a train. So at 65k it's not getting one which is fine by me.

Maybe if I was racing and every second counted then yes but as an average TVR owner I will wait until a fiat 500 blows me away.

48k miles, no major engine work that I'm aware of. Strong oil pressure (touchwood!) and 3 clutches including the current one.

Just clocked-up 80K miles on a 2400 Km round trip to Italy.
Used no water or Oil.

Just been having a nosey through the folder of receipts, it turns out mine is actually on its 4th clutch in 48000 miles. Last replaced at 41500, looks like I'd better brace myself.

Just got back from Manchester on what I hoped was a pleasant drive back but.... Heavy rain and a multi car, ambulance, patrol car pile up ended any hope of that

Me thinks somebody has been having fun before you bought it. :-)

Can't think of anything worse for a Cerbera than rain and traffic, simultaneously! Yes, an awful lot of fun (over £25k in receipts!), but that's what they're here for. I'm still pushing for the 16th off Mike, in the vain hope of making it to Malton. Are you definitely going?

I had a clutch at 25k, then 45k miles. Now the car is 65k.
And the engine was rebuilt at 45k. Apparently because of an oil pump failure. I have the feeling that lots of engine rebuilt are due to pump failure, am I right?
