So, as some people on here are aware, I have come back to road racing after 20 odd years. I wasn't a bad junior back in the day - although those were the days of woolen winter tights, and downtube shifters! I was racing at the weekend and one of the starters was a guy called Matt Bottrill. It turns out that he was 3rd in the National TT Champs a couple of weeks ago, won by one Alex Dowsett who also had a decent spin yetserday morning.

This was my fastest race of the year - ave 27.1 mph on my Garmin - and it was won by 2 1/2 mins by Mr Bottrill on his own! Incredible ride, and first hand experience of what real power on a bike looks like.

I ride a few times a week with a couple of Sky & Rapha pro's. On our usual Saturday ride it ends in a sprint for a sign. I've got a decent gallop but I was passed last week by a Sky rider & it was truly humbling. I was 2nd wheel & really going for it, out popped this guy & it was like when the Millenium Falcon goes into hyperspace...

I trained Lance Armstrong... he could never hold my rear wheel but I don't ride as fast with cameras chasing so left the "showboating" tours to him... wink
