Hum, I wonder how they got that name? Probably because they can easily identify a ditch from a safe distance at speed with no ramification.

With owning a car requiring that kind of rubber, you should know better and spend the extra money.

£250 each or for both? Each, I'm sure you can get something less top end that will do 99%, £250 for a pair is about right for something Conti, Goodyear, Bridgestone.

Have a look at Vredestein tyres (sp?)

Used to have some 235/45/18 from them on the megane at £100 a pop, very good too!

I've got Avon CR322s all round on the XI, often known as ditchfinders by the Caterham crew. I find them fantastic on track, drifts are easily provoked and controlled, being hard they last and last. On road I don't drive like I stole it so slides are rarely an issue, but again, they are easily controlled.

Erm, was that what you were expecting??

But not Toyo!! I'm fed up with the frequent loss of traction in damp/wet conditions. I'll be having Conti's next time for the same price thank you.

They are the four bits that stick your car to the road.

If it is for a 1.4 Golf/Saxo/etc that only does short hops and is driven slowly then you will notice that they are not great but do the job and cast a fortune less than the best stuff.

If it is for something a little tasty or to be driven with any sort of gusto IMO you need your head examining. Tempting for track only use to save cost and reduce speeds at which the car will let go to teach control but for fast road use no way.

What car are they for? http://www.camskill.co.uk/m54b0s312p6207/FALKEN_TY...

Are a good tyre imho, easily comparable to F1's but half the price.

Black circles on here is good for tyres as is Camskill.

Cheap tyres are just that. If you drive knowing you've got st tyres you'll be fine. I used to have a different one on every corner of the sttest types imaginable. If they're new they're also certified as fit for purpose, so don't let people scare you.

I don't bother with them anymore, not because I'm one of these "oh my god it's so dangerous" types, but instead because you only save about £10 a corner, so it's not really worth it IMO.

I think there's a lot of hot air and guff spouted about cheaper tyres and unless a tyre is made by one of the larger corps and wears a Pirelli or Goodyear logo on it then it's obviously st.

I've used cheap tyres that have been great in all conditions and then some branded, expensive ones that have been proper ditchfinders.

It depends really - the difference in performance is often very significant, especially in the wet. But that doesn't necessarily mean they're dangerous if you understand their limitations and drive accordingly. And it doesn't mean a big-brand tyre is always better than one from a mid-range manufacturer.

Its generally worth spending a bit extra on something at least mid-range rather than budget, though I did have one highly entertaining winter with kingstars on the back of an MX5. hehe

They are for an a4 Avant,
what about part worns?

I suppose, the extra difference of 1/2pence per mile over the life of the tyre isnt worth it,

I think the issue is that some are pretty good and some are bleedin' awful. You need to do a little homework before buying.

Nexen are not normally either too expensive or too awful. May be worth checking them out.

Nothing wrong with part worns either, especially if you don't plan to keep the car long term

What car are they going on? Some tyres are better suited to certain car types better than others.

I've just stuck a set of Falken ZE912s on the back of the Jag - superior in every way to the Pirelli P6000 ditchfinders it had on before but were still only £70 each from Camskill.

+1 for Falken ZE912s

Had these on my A4 Quattro, and through the winter they were pretty good.

A good all round tyre IMHO - and a keen price too.
