Afternoon all.

I've been offered a really cheap project car from a friend who lives in London. Only problem is it doesn't have a MOT otherwise I'd be down this weekend to pick it up.

It's going to be a project car for over the winter so trying to do this on a budget.

Anyone know the cost to have a car transported up from down south. Unfortunately I don't have a license to trailer a car. I passed my test 2 months too late frown

Book an MOT in Aberdeen, then set off at 6AM from London. MOT and road tax not required, but insurance is.

Haha.. I did think about that. Wonder how the cops would deal with that situation if I was stopped?

Insurance isn't a problem.

hehe

You could legally do that but is it really roadworthy enough for a journey like that? You could also take out AA get-you-home membership...

Usual car transport price is £1/mile eek

The AA will refuse to tow the car if it does not have a tax disc, so this would require the OP to get it MOT'd and taxed first.

Any chance of getting it MOT'd in London?

What's the name of the transporter place in Turriff? They were by far the cheapest when I was looking into getting my Viper taken from London way up to Inverness.

Can you rememeber the cost of that?

I'm prepared to pay £200 to £225,but not sure that's do-able. The car isn't worth much more than that in its current state.

About 7 years ago, I paid about £200 to have my Westfield transported up from Birmingham. But it came up on the back of an artic and was loaded on and off with a fork lift truck, along with bread, milk.... smile

Surely that would be the cheapest option and drive it up although you'd have the train fare down.

I don't think they were called that. At least, not at that time (4 years ago). I think they were in teh regoin of about £350 though. I don't think you'll get any joy for £200-odd I'm afraid...

It needs some work to pass, nothing major but I was planning on doing it over the winter. My friend is practically giving me the car, so don't want to put him out with the hassle of MOT etc. Besides, MOT £50 (assuming it passes), tax £75, fuel back up £100 and say £50 to get down not to mention the time.

Certainly cheaper than £400, but if I can get it down then I'd rather it just turns up on my door step one day smile Car is probably only worth £750 in a working, taxed and MOT'd state.

Try Aberdeen Trailers (see number in my post above). We used them once before and they were the cheapest around, they seem to be up and down the road a lot - I think they transport Transit Vans from Spain to the channel ports (this may have changed, it was a long time ago) so if you are flexible on timings they may do you a deal on a part load.

I just called them, but they said they don't do car transportation frown

From their website it looks like they just sell small trailers..

Pretty sure, now that I think about it, that it was A. Lovie in Turrif that quoted for me.

There was a guy on Gumtree advertising trailer hire... maybe hire that trailer and a transit with a towbar?

Put an ad up on www.shiply.com. There's always someone coming up with an empty wagon.

I know of a lot of guys who did that with their hot rods etc.

Thanks. Yeah on there already, prices are a little high at the moment, but coming down. I'm in no rush as all.
