I used to go in the 1990's and it was awesome then!
+1I gave up with the Munich Oktoberfest many years ago.
The place is crawling with foreign tourists for the
two weeks its on.
Even the locals don't bother much. They have to
go on quiet times like Tuesday afternoon, just
to get a seat.
Hotel prices double when it's on and the hotels
are still full. What a bunch of sheep.
Intelligent folks avoid the Munich Oktoberfest and
go to the world's 2nd biggest beer fest in Stuttgart.
No tourists, just tens of thousands of Germans
sinking a few litres. Far more civilised, and you
don't get some drunken Ozzie / Kiwi / Yank throwing
up over your shoes after only two beers.

sign of the times I suppose. I last went when there was a West Germany, I'd hoped it hadn't gone the way it has been portrayed above, Real Germans drink slowly but keep on going, rose coloured glasses etc.

Hofbrauhaus - quite possibly the world's most famous pub.I like it that much, I've had a couple of goes at transferring
my residency papers to there, but the locals won't have it ;->
Mind you, I tried out the Hirschgarten the other
week, for the first time in a long time.
Seating for 8,000. 'Nuff said.
