If it is a re-post I haven't seen it so thanks for the link. I'll have post it to my old man, he was with 208 and did red flag with the Bucc's in '77 & '78.

Who's your old man?

Did he know Julian Flood and Ken Tait?

Old man is Al Davies did 22 years starting at Coltishall in '71. On 208 from 76 to 82/3. I'll ask next time I speak to him if he knows those names.

Brilliant film. I loved the Buccaneer, an aircraft that is truly missed.

I heard a story about 2 Buccaneers hiding under a Vulcan's wings that was flying just above the hard deck at a Red flag before popping out to engage the Yanks after they'd buzzed the Vulcan thinking that it was unsupported. Go RAF!!

I heard a similar story although the Bucc's wouldn't have engaged, I think the idea was that the Vulcan shielded the Bucc's as long as it could then the two Bucc's were free to hit the target - the yanks thinking they had killed or chased off their prey were a bit surprised.

It could have been 607 (of Black Buck fame) as she was at at least 1 red flag exercise and we didn't take many.

It was after a particularly successful day for the RAF that the yanks went down the line in the middle of the night and painted red stars on the Bucc's.

When I did my Buccaneer course at Honington in 1982, we were shown a video assembled from clips shot by cameras at the SAM sites at Red Flag. If that video ever shows up on YouTube it’ll be a hit for months!

I saw that once. The wing tips were kicking up the dust. The SAM operators were dumbfounded.

I’m surprised that footage and the recordings have never made it to YouTube. I saw it on the BBC news at the time and can still remember it quite clearly.

I seem to remember seeing it on Nationwide of all places.

Don't forget that some of the Buccaneers suffered catastrophic structural failures during these exercises.

Yes I think it was Nationwide. The wing thing didn’t happen until a few years later though did it?
