While having my Chimaera serviced at David Hendry yesterday I took their Silver Tamora Demonstrator for a 40 minute spin.

I have to be honest and admit that I was one of those plonkers that dissed the car without seeing it in the flesh. Big Mistake. Some people are photogenic, others not. I think pictures of the car - even though they look good - just don't do it justice.

It is absolutely stunning. The internal finish is a league above my Chimaera and I loved the way the windows opened slightly when opening the doors.

Best of all however was the handling. When I took it around some twisty Wiltshire roads it just stuck like glue to the road. The confidence it inspired was amazing - so what it must be like when you've had a few weeks to get the measure of it - I can only imagine.

Problem now is I want one.... and until my tech stocks improve or I can offload the family motor... I'm going to have to wait.

The other problem was that I was so taken with the test drive that I didn't notice they'd put in Shell Helix ultra oil (5w/40) instead of Mobil 1. Is this OK or should I complain?

shell helix ultra is more expensive than mobil 1! And its approved by Ferrari for their V12 multivalve masterpieces so must be good stuff.

I get charged £12 a litre by the Ferrari garage, fortunately i have realised that just like Mobil1 it can be purchased in France for about £3.80 per litre.

and on the Tamora front when you see one in the flesh it looks way better than in photo's. I am not sure TVR helped themseves out with that nasty lime coloured prototype they took to the GT events last year...when you see a finished one it starts to make even a design classic such as a griff look a little bit 'plain' by comparison.

It's so true what you say about the difference between a picture of a car and seeing the real thing. As soon as I saw the facelifted '02 996 I really wanted one, much more than I thought from the pics.
