Have you told the laptop to connect to the internet via the LAN rather than it's own modem?

In IE, Tools > Internet Options > Connections

Two things need to be set:-
The laptop needs to know that the PC is the "way out" ("default gateway" in PC speak)

The PC needs to be configured to forward requests from the laptop out onto the public internet. Recent versions of Windows do "Internet Connection Sharing".

As you've had it working in the past, hopefully that will serve as enough of a memory-jogger.

Same thing happened on my system when I was using ICS to conenct the laptop to the desktop. It's a Windows thing, it just screws you sooner or later.

I've just bought an ADSL Modem/Router. £70 once working it stays working.

Sorry I can't suggest a fix but if I were I would consider doing the same as me.

for the use it gets (g/f uses it for ebay - lol) it aint worth spending £70 on.

it's her fault for d/l'ing so much crap with spyware etc attatched - but then again it's as much my fault for not putting ZoneAlarm on it earlier lol

I have Zone Alarm Pro, Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton Anti-Virus. Never been infected, never had a dialler installed, all Data Minig cookies are zapped.

Still the ICS network stopped working. It's much more trouble than it's worth.

Ah, another user problem - 'it cant be me ill do a clean install of windows and have lots of new problems' sweeping move. Excellent.

Proxy server? so easy to do its untrue.
