As a fan of both of these cars, which would you opt for if given the choice?

Given the hideous reliability problems that have been reported about the 3000GTO, I'd opt for the Celica.

As much as i liked the 3000 back in the day, the celica is the future classic and still looks the nuts in a retro style way.

the celica is marginally less repulsive on the eye, imo

Given the 3000GT is hideous I'd opt for the Celica.

Celica.

Even moreso if it was anything like MrE's old car!

Celica all day long. Lighter, more nimble, great engine and easy to extract more power (from the turbo).

Out of those 2, I'd have the Celica. But I'd still want a Lancia Delta Integrale....

I'd go Celica, hoping that it couldn't possibly be as big a money pit as the GTO.

2nd'd

The Mitsi's suffer from all sorts of oil pump issues, with engines stting themselves type problems. THE worst car PERIOD to actually do any mechanical work on too. Until you've tried you would not beleive how nuts & bolts can be located in such riduculous places with no access. Truly awful cars in just about every respect including the handling stakes - if it works that is.

The Celica is 10x better from a mechanical point of view, quite reliable even tweaked, easy to maintain & fiddle with. Nothing special in the handling stakes as standard though.

Neither of them are especially quick

Having exactly the same debate in my head. Will be following this one closely. Upon further reading, seems like the Celica would be a better buy laugh

Those 3000GT's are vulgar, and if someone pipes up saying they're quick, I'll preempt you by saying there was 'track prepped' one at Spa on a trackday last year wallowing about and getting in everyone's way, including me.
Be fair, anyone stupid enough to pick a GTO for a track toy is likely to be lacking in other areas, like basic motor control, or other bodily functions that would allow us to drive a car.

Reliability issues, ridiculous complexity and the difficulty of working on them aside, I actually quite like them to drive.
I know they weigh more than my Jag, but they don't feel like it.

Amazed nobody likes the look of the 3000GT, I didn't think they looked half bad myself.

Celica. 3000gt has some expensive issues and it's ugly as sin.

It's a bit 80's but I prefer it to the incredibly dull and bland shape of the Celica.
People are too used to cars that look like someone has dropped a bar of soap onto four wheels these days.

I like the look of the 3000GT, but they are trouble...

Go for the Celica.
