You now require 50 posts just to be able to view SC, and 250 (!) posts to be able to post in it.

I give up.

Oh, didn't know this. Blame the speed posters. If they had behaved better, and used the forum for discussing watches not as a free ebay...

PS the 50 posts will come up quickly even if you post properly... after all, you have a genuine interest in watches, right? wink

Does this apply to older members who haven't reached this level?

I have been browzing TZ Sales Corner for several months and suddenly it disappears. Where's the logic in the new rules? Does TZ benefit from an increase in random posts by new members or is it just after new members?

Yup.

Some posters have been caught in a frankly risible situation, where they've got a post running in sales corner, but now as of the new rules, cannot post in SC.

Oh and it's paradoxical to blame the speed posters because if there wasn't a "target" post count, there wouldn't be any speed posters in the first place.

Somewhere like SC should be self moderating, such is the TZ community, and as a further tool - get some moderators onboard.

Bit annoying really, I never posted on TZ but used to enjoy browsing the classifieds on there.

Copied from TZ:

'The forum attracts a lot of people joining for the wrong reasons and hopefully this will stop them. For selling and buying, eBay can't be beaten if you want a world-wide audience. Sales Corner is for forum members who can be reasonably sure that they are dealing with trustworthy people. 50 crap posts in 24 hours doesn't say "trustworthy" to me.

Eddie'

Still don't understand why you can't browse the SC though? He's gone and lost a big part of the market SC. He might know more about watches than I do but he know's bugger all about marketing frown

Enjoyed the odd hour or so looking through there. Certainly taught me a lot about what I want to buy next........

I think it just about sums the place up.

I enjoyed looking at sales corner and would happily have joined had something I wanted turned up there.... although I always thought it was a bit odd as far as forums go. People seem to worship this 'Eddie' bloke for some reason. I'm sure he's a nice enough bloke... but people dont have blow smoke up his arse to the point it appears creepy!

I think you'll find he probably doesn't give a st about marketing the forum...

Sort of guessed that wink

But few new genuine watch buyers will find SC or be bothered to post 50 times to view, so the changes will reduce the pool of potential buyers and the prices they get offered for their watches to the point people post their watches for sale elsewhere.

So perhaps its better phrased as he has demonstrated 'bugger all knowledge of market forces' if his intended changes are meant to improve the SC for genuine watch buyers/sellers in the longer term.

So now the same few hundred people will just sell watches to each other perpetually.

Not that I'd actually sign up, I used it for idle browsing occasionally but a bad buying experience through Timefactors has put me off ever having anything to do with Eddie again.

My humble 77 posts aren't enough to post then. Ah well - there's a whole other world out there.

Another point that seems to have sailed over Eddie's head is that many users have arrived at TZ because of the sales corner, and have went on to became good users of the forum.

If, as you say shadow, he doesn't give a st about the marketing of the forum, then that's another trick he's missing because the TZ forum is a direct link to his Time Factors business.

I think someone has hacked him off so he's taken his ball away.

I'd have thought that following the maxim of 'buy the seller' that anyone could tell if the person they were dealing with was someone as yet unestablished and take it from there. I think it's a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut, and it limits the gene pool, but as someone said, it's a big world out there; I've only bought one watch from TZ-UK sc in a couple of years, so it's not the mecca it is sometimes seen as. Having said that there are some very nice collections that drip through every now and again.

Shame really, I feel sorry for the people caught in between the post limits having it cut off to them more than anything.

I posted on the 'Goal Posts' thread yesterday on TZ saying that what he'd done was fair enough if maybe a bit harsh.
The whole premise of the forum being somewhere to chat about watches or whatever with the added bonus of a Sales Corner is how Eddie originally set it up and SC itself has a fantastic rep for being an honest and trustworthy place to trade. That rep isn't something to be taken lightly and needs to be protected, hence the subsequent reaction to a number of recent speedposters who may have been genuine but could easily have been labelled as people who's primary interest is to trade or potential scammers. People with more than 50 posts can still purchase from SC or send questions via PM, I can't see anything wrong with that at all, and not being able to sell on SC until you have 250 is tough but should stop a fair few speedposters and/or scammers so mission potentially accomplished from that perspective.
The downside is that genuine people are going to be frozen out to a point and that's a shame. Maybe the viewing of SC could be achieved by being a member for a couple months for example instead of a post count, that would keep the lurkers happy. The new rules will also mean fewer potential purchasers, non members looking for a watch but who aren't interested in joining will be lost.
I'm not an Eddie fanboy but I understand that it's his site and he'll do what he wants and, as with most rules and regulations, it's always a case of pros and cons.
