Recommendations for a removal company
Discussion
...4 bed house from SE7 to GL7
We want a company who can turn up, box everything, disassemble the beds/wardrobes, stick it in a big van, drive to the new place, unload it all, and reassemble the stuff they disassembled earlier.
Sounds a simple enough requirement, but I'm getting quotes at the moment and they all seem a bit crap. Very good at telling me what they can't do and not what they can do (which is the above).
Can anyone recommend such a firm I should contact?
Oh, and insuring it in transit - there must be a way to insure it for less than 17%+VAT that they all seem to charge.

We used http://www.5valleysremovalsstonehouse.co.uk/ on a recommendation from a PH'er.
We were very pleased with them, they came and packed everything and were able to deal with problems thrown at them at the last minute (couldn't get the van down the lane!).
They probably weren't the cheapest around and I don't know whether they'd deal with disassembling/reassembling furniture - I suspect there are too many problems with furniture falling apart when they try to put it back together.

GB Liners. Used them 6 times to move and store stuff etc. Brilliant.
Moved me 4 weeks ago. Their pack and move quote includes insurance. I only had a small house, but it was enough to fill 2 wagons (I guess my hydraulic lift took up more space than expected!). They packed up the majority the night before and moved me the next day. 0800-1930 both days and hard work. 4-5 guys on the job.
I'm not sure they're the cheapest out there, but they are very efficient and careful. Insurance etc is fine, but if they break something that can't be replaced it's little consolation.
Not often I'll unreservedly recommend, but I would these.

I used this company to move out of London last October and I can't recommend them highly enough. They were fantastic. They packed almost everything up the day before we moved then came back the morning of the move and finished off and loaded the truck, then unloaded it all at the new house, put beds back together, etc. Nothing was lost, nothing was broken. Really friendly efficient service.

Little scary you remembered that!!
Back in early 2008 we couldn't find anything we liked at what we thought was a reasonable price (and in hindsight, how right were we?!
) and with a reasonable commute, so stayed put and extended the house instead. Where we're going is Gloucestershire and although it is commutable to London (front door to desk 2 hours) the intention is for me to find work within an hour's drive (and my wife works from home).
Bit of a life change

Btw, regarding insurance.
My current house insurance will cover all the insurance (packing, transit, unpacking ) as long as I'm insured with them at the current place and the new place. All inclusive in the policy.
Interestingly, Pickfords want more to insure the pack/transit/unload than the house insurance costs for the house's contents for a whole year.

When we moved we got quotes from some of the big guys, and some of the local guys. Local guys significantly cheaper and did a fantastic job. So ask around your area to see if anyone recommends local guys.
Our local guys had had to help one of the nationals the day before. They hadn't checked access to the new house, and couldn't get their lorry close, so hired in the local guys to unload the large lorry into the local guys smaller lorry and do several trips!
