So after 25 years away from riding/racing I climbed back on the bike November 28th last year.

I have lost over 3 stone, got a race licence, placed on Welwyn track league this summer.

All a precursor to road racing next year.

Currently riding about 280 miles a week.

Tonight I got "there are more important things than winning a bike race"

They just don't understand !

If couldn't sleep with them, you wouldn't talk to them.

This is not the correct approach! Surely you know not to entered into reasoned debate?

Her: "there are more important things than winning a bike race"

You: "there are more important things than new shoes"

When I first joined the senior ranks we were due to go on our first holiday together (before married). We went for a romantic weekend away to snowdonia - she was driving in a banana yellow Mk1 Fiesta (those were the days). I made her take me to Eastway circuit (hackney marshes - now demolished to make the Olympic velodrome) on the morning before going on holiday in the afternoon.

It was one of those days when you possessed the legs of Merckx, god knows how, I won every prime and the race and some bloke came upto me afterwards and stuck more money in my hand saying how much he enjoyed the racing.

That one bike race paid for all our spending money on holiday - she didn't moan about winning a bike race then !

Half the time the jealousy comes from the fact they can ne'er find or stick with sometime to make it into a wholesome worth while hobby. Spending money on st on Oxford street doesn't sound like much of a hobby to me.
