Snow/ice tyres...Any recommendations

So with all the winter car tyre threads lets have one in PP.

I am looking to continue winter commuting this year even if we have heavy snow. So the question is which MTB tyres will best cope with the white stuff.

Anything fat, with open tread blocks that will empty themselves should be fine. Low pressure a bonus too of course.

Last year I used Schwalbe Ice Spiker tyres in Londons heaviest snow and subsequent ice. They are heavy so you might want to go with the lighter Pro version.
I wouldn't consider them to be a commute tyre, more a no compromise ice tyre.

Last weekend I re-commissioned an old MTB that's been sitting in my garden under a tarpaulin for over a year for use in case it snows. I was planning on using the MTB tyres but may be tempted to invest in some specific tyres if there are cheap ones available.

I use Ice Spiker Pros.

Fresh snow isn't too much of a problem on normal MTB tyres, it's when there is ice on the ground that you need them.

They are slow,heavy and noisy, and dry tarmac probably wears outs the metal studs, so I alternate between two sets of wheels, with/without spikes depending on the conditions.
