Hi,

I am in the process of buying a new car. I have 10k to spend.

My requirements are as follows:-

1. Registered 05 onwards.
2. Reasonable mileage - up to 70k.
3. Diesel
4. Automatic (I think!!)
5. Leather

I have looked very closely into getting a 5 series BMW (530d SE), but have also looked at C-class Mercs (not keen), Audi A4s, and even older X5s (lpg).

I want something with a bit of prescence and looks good, (hence I haven't gone for a Mondeo or something)

I would really appreciate your comments (sorry if this is a repeated thread, or it's in the wrong place)

Andy

Why the 05-plate restriction?

I'd have an E39 M5.

Didn't think the E39 M5 was available as an automatic either so... double fail on the requirements list! smile

I think you're missing a trick by dismissing the Mondeo. You get a lot of car for your money, and who cares what it looks like, you can't see it when you're driving it.

Mk4 diesel Mondeos in Titanium X trim should be getting towards the 10k mark. Go for the 2.2TDCI for a bit more go.

There's also the Pug 407 Coupe. They're a VERY nice motor.

I was in the same boat recently, looking at similar cars.

Not sure how, but I ended up with an Alfa 159, which I absolutly love.

Sure, it won't be quite as economical as the BMW, but for road pressence, it's tough to beat.

10k would get you a nice Ti model (although this one is expensive IMO):

You must have had a 2003 or earlier model? Either you bought it a long time ago or you didn't do even the most basic research, they're well known for issues.

2004-2006 models are OK.

The cars from the 2006 facelift onwards are very good.

2003 models yes. I did plenty of research thanks... Mine had the Behr radiator and still got fecked...

Pile of dogst.

Lots of toys, comfortable....but mine was a nice looking hunk of metal which got sold on after needing another torque converter after the clutch plate had disintegrated after 5000 miles..

Even without the rad, rust and SBC issues should have still put you off. Unless you bought it a few years ago, in which case MB should have looked after you.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the replies - my budget is up to 11k now.

I would seriously welcome more suggestions. The direct links are especially helpful.

I really want leather (although not absolutely vital)..

Help me find the car.

Diesel
Leather
06 onwards I feel
Decent mileage (70k max)

Thanks
