Chaps, I am bored of the overly quiet and civilised side exit exhaust on my Morgan. It also sounds like a pair of Harleys, rather than having the lovely muscle car burble that my last Aero 8 had with its rear exit pipes.

However, I like the look of the side exit pipes, and anyway, Morgan want £1600 for a stainless cat back rear exit exhaust which is, frankly, a little excessive.

Anyone recommend someone I can take the car to, near me, for a little chat about custome boxes on each side, or even a re-packing/re-configuration of the current ones' internals?

Convenience is a big thing. Another Morgan owner got the same done for £200 per side. But the place, helpful as they are, are in North Yorkshire, and I don't think my vaccinations are up to date.

I've e-mailed Hayward & Scott in Basildon, Essex - but I reckon they may be a bit mainstream, rather than properly taking care not to turn my car into an antisocially loud high street cruiser.

Zero in Ashford, Kent - Top bloke, he makes everything bespoke including the silencers. Well priced too smile

He did a system for my old XJR: discussed how quiet/loud etc, MoT friendly decatting & re-used the OE tips, could not fault it. A big system for about £600.

Thanks - have e-mailed him. Ashford easy as well as I could drop the car off and get back to central London efficiently!

I had a full new exhaust from Powerspeed in Ashford for the Caterham. No complaints at all.

Powerflow in Uxbridge - might be a bit of a trek for you but they will customise it to your precise requirements.

+1 on these guys. They used my P38 as a template to make up new cats which they were going to commercialise. Don't know whether they did or not but at the next MOT the tester even mentioned how good the Cats were.

My indy uses them and his old E34 Touring made a very nice noise due to a powerspeed custom exhaust.

I got a stainless system for my car and wasn't particularly impressed to be honest. Firstly I had to go back two times to get them to quieten it to the level I'd asked for in the first place. One of the silencers cracked within 6mths. I was also unimpressed with the overall quality of the welding.

All in all, not a fantastic experience, but it may depend on who makes the system and their level of experience.

Cheesemans won't do one-offs. I'm seeing Simpsons Race exhausts in Langley, Berkshire on Saturday morning after a PH recommendation (near my folks' house in Virginia Water, and I'm there this weekend, so convenient). Any experiences or other suggestions for custom exhausts in the Surrey/Berks area?

Rather stay away from Powerflow, and go to someone local, rather than justa distributor for a national chain...

As they customise exhausts to your specification, I'm not sure what the difference is as the metal all comes from the same source I suspect! Certainly, when I had one for my CLK55, they were happy to bend, rotate and adjust the system until I was 100% satisfied. OCD FTW. (I wanted the twin tips to be horizontal... unlike some aftermarket exhausts you see... to stick out just as much and no more or less than the original... and to be parallel to the flat of the bumper... plus I didn't want it TVR-loud.)

Sorry about that, they must have narrowed their scope. Some years back they did a one-off in stainless for a french car I owned. Their one-off in stainless was no more expensive than a dealer system in mild steel! Result.

Haven't used them personnally, but have heard good things about Zero exhausts from people that have.
