oil dribbling from air filter??

just noticed at the weekend, its a right sticky mess that appears to be coming from the air intake and depositing itself on the front spoiler, oil based ....should i worry?

There is an oil breather that goes into the right back of cylinders. If the oil is leaking out into the engine bay, check to see if the breather pipe has not come off. If the oil is near the air intake then take the filter out and have a look. Some filters are soaked in oil, although i have never had any experience of these.

The air filter, which lives at the air intake right up front, is liberally coated with oil. It's common for this to dribble onto the front spoiler, just behind the plate, when the weather (or the engine) gets a bit hot.

had the air filter out a couple of weeks ago, was saturated in oil, no presence of oil above the air filter ...just really confirming that the heat must have warmed up the oil enough for it to 'trickle' out the front of the car

The air filter oil is quite sticky. If yours is the same then no worries.

It is probably the gung that is used to impregnate the foam filter that you can see. Usually found after it has been serviced or renewed.
There is a chance that it is engine oil and to check this you will need to remove both intake hoses which is an easy job.
Engine oil should not be found here unless there is a problem.
