Jenson and Ferrari

This morning on the BBC Breakfast show at about 6am they mentioned briefly that Jenson may be going to Ferrari. Is there any news on this or did i just dream it?

Apparently he is signing a one year with McLaren with the hope he might get Massa's seat in 2013.

rumor mill is that JB is using this as a tactic to get more money out of Mclaren. He wants to be on the same money as Lewis who signed his contract before the credit crunch really kicked in.

Mclaren have an option on him for 2012 under his current contract, speculation is that both sides are aiming for a new multi year contract for 2012 onwards, rather than just take up the one year option for 2012.
JB will be putting forth the view that he's proved an awful lot since joining Mclaren and as a result is worth more £££ and less corporate days and probably quite a few other things.

As always Mclaren will be balancing the books and sponsor demands.

I agree with those that say no way will JB go to Ferrari to be a firm No. 2 to Alonso. Mclaren seems to suit him really well at the moment.

I hope so, wouldn't like to see Button at Ferrari especially as a number two driver.

Probably, but people said that about his move to McLaren, what with Hamilton being their product and he hasn't done too badly. I can see why he might want to. Got the WDC, proved he can win against Hamilton, so why not have a few years at Ferrari before retiring and going to do sportscars or something? I do wonder what sort of force Ferrari would be if they concentrated on TWO top line drivers. Alonso and JB would be one hell of a line up IMO.

Its more about equal status. Will Alonso be happy with that? If not, JB deserves better. Still, as has been said, it's probably a bargaining point.

I'd love to see Jenson go to Ferrari. The icing on the cake, for most drivers. People said he would get slaughtered at McLaren, yet he's come away with great credibility and his reputation is enhanced. I'm sure he would relish the challenge, plus, he's old enough and wise enough not to get into a fankle with Fred.

Why do people keep linking top drivers with that seat? Kubica, Webber, Vettel, Button...

Alonso has made it clear that he is one of those drivers who demands the whole team revolves around him (which is a sensible strategy for a driver to employ).
So why would anyone harbouring ambitions of winning a race without an Alonso DNF even contemplate it?

I don't understand this either, it was made pretty clear when Alonso joined Ferrari that he must be number one at all times and I doubt his new contract says anything different. Not that any of the drivers want to win would go to Ferrari anyway, Red Bull or McLaren have had more success over the last couple of years and Mercedes seem to be catching up with the top 3 teams so that could be the place to go before constantly fighting with Team Alonso.

I fully agree.

A proven joint number 1 position, or a proven number 2 position?

If it comes down to that I don't think JB would have to think very hard.
