Gearbox whine

Got a gearbox whine (i think) when cutch up which goes away when clutch depressed or when in gear and driving. Any ideas? I'm thinking wrong or not enough gearbox oil. What is it supposed to be. Is a bit 'notchy' to put in gear.

Most likely a bad bearing, maybe on the in going axel.

Checking oil would be a good starting point imho.

I was reccommended to use a Semi-synthetic 75/90 gear oil ( by Geartech who know a thing or two about Ford gearbox's), the bronze syncro rings in these old box's don't like fully synthetic.
