500 Swirl Pot Bleed Nut

I note that the above doesn't have any sort of gasket or O ring on my car whereas the Steve Heath ones say they have a rubber O ring seal - so question is should there be an O ring or fibre washer under the bleed nut normally?

yes... O ring is std...

Mine had a nylon washer from memory, when i changed it for the SH version that had a O ring.
i also had to make a special tool to get the old one out as mine was very tight.

So does the O ring go inside the threaded hole or on top of the swirl pot?

mines just done up tight, and i got no leaks

the o ring is only on the SH one and fits on the plug, (slide over the threads) that screws in.

what tosh... my old one was the original.. and had what was lest of the rubber O ring in a grove under the top (not the thread)... and I've since bought a new one from TVR car parts I think.. and that too has a O ring in a grove under the head.. Granted they do tend to go flat so may look like a rubber washer.. but I'm sure they would weap with nothing in there??

I had the bleed nut off the other day and looked under the top flange - there did seem to be a black line but I just assumed it was from where it met/rubbed on the ally but as the header tends to run a bit low I wondered if it is slowly losing a bit of water hence the question in case that is a possible place. No doubt a fibre washer under the top would also work and might be a bit easier to get. Thanks for the (prompt)info!

k0068 is the cap
k0069 is the O ring

Other people tend to sell them as one unit...

But as you say.. fibre washer / silicon should do the job...

Thanks John - I've been out in the Griff this afternoon (60 miles incl a bacon butty!!) and whilst the engine isn't stone cold yet the water level doesn't seem to have moved and is a lot higher than it has run nearly all year so maybe all is fine without any seal on the bleed nut.

If you polish the top of the bottle you'll see staining on there if you get a leak..
